Duke is the code name for First Sergeant Conrad S. Hauser. He is one of the main characters in GI Joe and is considered a favorite among fans. He is from St. Louis, Missouri and was the top of his class at Fort Benning when he enlisted in 1967. He was fluent in several languages including French, German, Han Chinese and other Southeast Asian dialects which is why he opted for a US Army Special Language School. Duke has gone under Special Forces Training in South Vietnam. Aside from that, he was also the language instructor in several special forces schools. He turned down an officer commission in 1971 despite his accomplishments. He strongly believes that a commander’s place is with his troops and not in the battlefield.

In the hit movie, “The Rise of Cobra”, he is a part of General Hawk’s theme and unlike the original story, he is still a newcomer to the GI Joe team. But despite these differences in the movie and the animated series, Duke is portrayed as a brave soldier who is willing to look out for his team and his teammates.
